Mental Health Social Worker
Tanya Genito is a Mental Health Social Worker having trained at the University of Queensland, School of Social Work and Social Policy, graduating in 2001. Since graduation she has worked in the drug and alcohol, housing, community/youth and education sector’s. Tanya’s areas of specialisation is working with young people and adults who have experienced trauma in their lives. Tanya also has a breath of experience working with issues such as grief and loss, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and anger management. Tanya also has a passion and a long history of providing professional supervision for other professionals especially with social workers, youth workers and community workers.
In addition to her private practice she have been actively involved in the Deception Bay Community. Her latest professional project in this area was establishing an independent high school for young people who have experienced trauma and disengaged from mainstream models of education as a result. Tanya developed a unique model of practice called the social brain education model which is based on trauma informed practice and neuroeducation for Kairos Community College.
Tanya’s private practice and community work overall aim is the same – to explore ways of creating a more equitable and safe spaces for us all. She is particularly interested in the ways we make meaning in our lives and to harness our own inner strength to create social change and wellness for ourselves and others.
Tanya uses an integrated approach drawing on techniques used in CBT, mindfulness, narrative, interpersonal and neuro-psychotherapy. Tanya’s practice framework draws on relationship, humanistic, feminist and strength based perspectives.
