Karen Northey

Social Worker

Karen Northey is a Social Worker with over twenty years of experience in the health and disability sectors. After graduating from the University of Queensland in 1993 she went on to work in various public hospitals both in Brisbane and interstate, and at Disability Services in Queensland and South Australia before moving on to private practice.

Karen has a specific interest in the impact of emotional stress on physical and mental health and wellbeing and is passionate about helping people to recover from stressful life experiences so they can cope more effectively and move forward to create positive change in their lives.

Karen utilizes a strengths-based framework incorporating a number of approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution focused therapy and art therapy techniques.  She uses these in combination with emotional regulation and stress management techniques such as Mindfulness and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).
