Dr Phil Stacey
Clinical Psychologist
Dr Phil is a highly experienced clinical psychologist with expertise in general, adolescent and young adult mental health. Dr Phil has an integrated psychotherapy framework that incorporates cognitive-behavioural, family systems and psychodynamic/psychoanalytic frameworks. Have you ever wondered why you are drawn to repeat certain patterns in life with certain types of people? Do you only feel worthwhile when others around you are happy, and become anxious and ask ‘what have I done wrong if they aren’t’? Do you find you react instinctively or defensively, without awareness of underlying reasons? Do feel tension build in your mind and body as you are confronted with impossible internal conflicts, damned if you do, damned if you don’t? You don’t need to wait until you have a mental disorder to benefit from psychotherapy!
Dr Phil’s work with patients involves working through the unhelpful relational and behavioural patterns learnt in early life that continue to re-enact in the present, are resistant to short-term therapy and medication, and that often lead to anxiety and depressive syndromes. Rather than talking you out of feelings, the first goal of therapy is to develop insight – a clear understanding of what is going on for you and how you got here so as to reveal choices. Dr Phil is a Psychology Board of Australia approved master supervisor for trainee and experienced psychologists and has an interest providing therapy and support to psychologists, counsellors and other health practitioners seeking to improve functioning. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and a Fellow of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.
